After The Sundown
60X60 CM
Oil on canvas
By Marios Orozco
Painted in August 2026
The sun may have gone down, but Copenhagen is far from ready for bed.
After The Sundown captures that beautiful time of evening when the last golden light still hangs over the city, while the lights along the waterfront are beginning to take over. A small sailboat sits quietly in the foreground, surrounded by reflections of yellow, turquoise, blue and red stretching across the water.
Marios Orozco has painted the scene with loose, visible brushstrokes and plenty of texture, letting the colors do much of the storytelling. The warm sky feels almost illuminated against the deep blues of the buildings and water, while the rows of glowing windows and lights along the quay give the painting a feeling of life continuing beyond the frame.
There is something both lively and peaceful about the scene. The city is still buzzing in the distance, but out on the water everything feels a little quieter.
Like many of Marios’ Copenhagen paintings, After The Sundown isn’t about creating a perfect photographic version of the city. It’s about capturing how a place feels in a particular moment—the light, the colors, the atmosphere and all those small details you remember long after you’ve left.
A colorful little piece of Copenhagen after sunset, when the sky is still glowing and the city lights have just begun to appear.
