By Marios Orozco

Expressionistic impression by Marios Orozco of Nyhavn. The warmth of the yellow sky that reflects in the water, makes great contrast to greens, blues and whites in the painting.

Marios loves to paint Nyhavn because of the beautifully preserved architecture. He feels he is allowed to play more when he is painting Nyhavn. Because of the many colors on the buildings and the different ways the light reflects in the water.

Nyhavn is a port district in Copenhagen, which is one of the city’s most visited tourist destinations. The harbor was excavated from 1671 to 1673 by Swedish prisoners of war from the Second Karl Gustav War as an alternative to the existing harbor. “Nyhavnskanalen” was inaugurated by Christian V in the 1670s, but today it is just called Nyhavn.
